THE PREDICTION
World number one Iga Swiatek became the first female player to win the same tournament three times in a row since Serena Williams (Miami 2013-2015) with victory at the Qatar Masters on Saturday, where she came back from a double break down to oust Elena Rybakina impressive straight sets. The Pole is the clear favourite to repeat that feat at Roland-Garros this summer but she also has form for rolling through this period of the tennis calendar after a remarkable 37-match winning streak two years ago saw her pick up six titles on the spin in Qatar, Indian Wells, Miami, Stuttgart, Rome and Paris.
Swiatek finished runner-up to Barbora Krejcikova here last season and she looks the favourite for the title this time around, although Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka are serious contenders too. Former world number three Sloane Stephens is one of a handful of players on the WTA tour with a ceiling high enough to shock Swiatek but that ceiling is increasingly rare. A three-set victory over Clara Burel on Sunday says the American will be competitive early on in this clash but she has lost both previous meetings in straight sets to suggest similar fare here.
