THE PREDICTION
World number one Iga Swiatek won her first Indian Wells title here two years ago with a straight-sets victory over Maria Sakkari and she looks as assured of victory here against the Greek in a rematch. 22-year-old Swiatek has won each of their last two meetings to reduce her deficit to 2-3 against Sakkari, suggesting that the momentum has firmly swung in the Pole’s direction since the start of her first dominative year in 2022, but she may meet a more resilient version of the Greek this time around as the world number nine has exorcised plenty of demons this fortnight, battling past Coco Gauff and in-form Emma Navarro in three sets apiece.
Despite winning her maiden Masters title in Guadalajara last September it could be argued that 28-year-old Sakkari has struggled to find her best tennis since losing this final two years ago but new coach David Witt appears to have developed a new mentality – at least here in conditions that thoroughly suit her. Having said all that, Swiatek has conceded just 17 games to reach the final here in the desert and she has looked unstoppable all fortnight, impressively bouncing back from a shock exit in the last four of the Dubai Masters last month. Back the Pole to win in straight sets.
TIP: IGA SWIATEK TO WIN 2-0
