West Indies must’ve thought putting 405/7 on the board batting first would be enough to see them level up this ODI series. Not so fast said India, who responded with a record-breaking run chase which saw them reach 406/2 in just 43.3 overs. It was an extraordinary effort, unpinned by Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 223. The opener registered 26 fours and eight maximums in his magnificent knock, putting up 255 for the first wicket with Rohit Sharma, who made a century of his own.
Five batters reached figures across a memorable encounter and West Indies proved that their batting is capable of putting together a big total against this Indian side. But the bowling attack continues to flounder and such a loss will have likely been hugely damaging from a mental aspect. With that in mind, expect another India victory here and Gill to be in the runs once more.
