THE PREDICTION
Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki enjoyed an excellent run to the quarter-finals of Indian Wells last week, beating Donna Vekic and old foe Angelique Kerber before returning injured in the second set against eventual champion Iga Swiatek. The 33-year-old returned to tennis from retirement last summer and she has already moved back up to world number 129 following deep runs last time out and at the US Open last summer, where she beat Petra Kvitova and Jennifer Brady before a three-set exit to eventual champion Coco Gauff. 22-year-old Clara Burel set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 44th after a strong start to 2024 and she also took Gauff to three sets before defeat at Indian Wells last time out to look a dangerous opener for the Dane.
Wozniacki was a finalist here back in 2017 but, whilst a title here would be almost out of the question at this stage of her comeback, she looked in strong enough shape last week to make a significant dent in Miami. Back the Dane to edge through, probably in three sets against the deceptively good Frenchwoman.
TIP: CAROLINE WOZNIACKI TO WIN
