Strasbourg preview: Impressive under GON

Following the departure of Liam Rosenior to Chelsea, there was a bit of uncertainty over the appointment of former AFC Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O’Neil but it has been a positive start for the Englishman in France.

Strasbourg come into this one on the back of ending Olympique Lyonnais’ 13 match unbeaten run of form across all competitions with a 3-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Martial Godo, Diego Moreira and Joaquin Panichelli.

Lens preview: Still in the race

Lens, with former Lyon boss Regis Le Bris at the helm in his first campaign at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, remain in the title race, just two points behind Paris Saint-Germain but two defeats in their last five matches have been very frustrating.

The second of those losses came at home to an improving Monaco side in the north of France last weekend. Lens had taken a very early lead in that game and doubled it just after half-time before succumbing to a dramatic Monegasque turnaround.

Strasbourg team news: Amo-Ameyaw a doubt

Former Southampton attacker Samuel Amo-Ameyaw is a doubt for Strasbourg this weekend, while former captain Emanuel Emegha is also a confirmed absentee.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Penders; Doue, Doukoure, Omobamidele, Chilwell; El Mourabet, Barco; Diego Moreira, Julio Enciso, Godo; Panichelli

Unavailable: Emegha (Injured)

Questionable: Amo-Ameyaw (Injured)

Lens team news: Fresh injuries

Lens are dealing with a couple of fresh injury concerns for this weekend as Mamadou Sangare is now potentially sidelined alongside the versatile Ruben Aguilar.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Risser; Celik, Ganiou, Sarr; Abdulhamid, Bulatovic, Thomasson, Udol; Thauvin, Saint-Maximin; Edouard

Unavailable: Gurtner (Injured), Baidoo (Injured), Antonio (Injured), Gradit (Injured)

Questionable: Aguilar (Injured), Sangare (Injured)

Strasbourg vs Lens prediction

Home advantage will be expected to see Strasbourg take things to their opposition, especially with the confidence that will have been found with their cohesion and intensity against such a strong Lyon side. Lens have a lot of quality themselves and are well coached so, even with their wobble last weekend, will also be confident here and it is a fascinating encounter for the neutral at Stade de la Meinau.

Strasbourg vs Lens tip: Both teams to score
