St Pauli Preview: Staving off the drop

Having gained promotion to the top-flight of German football last season under the management of Fabian Hurzeler, St Pauli lost their manager to Brighton and Hove Albion but replaced him well with former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise boss Alexander Blessin.

Blessin is now being linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion but the hosts have done very well this season as they begin the final three games of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season sitting six points clear of the bottom three and the danger zone.

Stuttgart Preview: Entertaining but frustrated

Stuttgart avoided relegation in the 2022/23 season via the end of season playoff before then propelling themselves to runners’ up in the Bundesliga last season. This time around, following the sale of several key players, they have regressed back into the middle-of-the-table.

The visitors, with Sebastian Hoeness at the helm, do have a chance to qualify for Europe this season with the upcoming DFB-Pokal final against third-tier Arminia Bielefeld last month and they do appear to be fully focused on that rather than the Bundesliga.

St Pauli Team News: Metcalfe suspended

Stuttgart Team News: Several doubts

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neubel; Stergiou, Jeltsch, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Rieder, Undav, Fuhrich; Demirovic

St Pauli vs Stuttgart Prediction

St Pauli have been defensively rigid and difficult to play against throughout the campaign as they edge towards safety with the 26 goals that they have scored so far being comfortably the lowest total in the division. They now face a Stuttgart side that have been entertaining throughout the campaign with their 31 games consisting of 107 goals. It is a clash of styles but also a clash of motivation with St Pauli looking to secure top-flight status and Stuttgart seemingly already preparing for the cup final.

St Pauli vs Stuttgart Tip: Double chance – St Pauli to win or draw
