Sevilla Preview: Steady Sevilla

Under the management of former Las Palmas boss Garcia Pimienta, Sevilla are looking to put to bed the last couple of years of chaos and, amid continued off-field issues, are building themselves into a steadier side that could still qualify for Europe this season.

The Andalusians most recently defeated Athletic’s Basque rivals Real Sociedad in the Basque Country last weekend with Chidera Ejuke scoring a 46th minute winner in that game. That means Sevilla are now unbeaten in their last four matches in La Liga.

Athletic Bilbao Preview: Basque brilliance

With Athletic’s home ground of San Mames hosting this season’s UEFA Europa League final, the Basque giants produced a major result in midweek to overturn a deficit against Roma to defeat the Italians and reach the quarter-finals of the tournament where they face Rangers.

Ernesto Valverde’s side have been brilliant to watch throughout the season as they remain tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures having broken a 40-year major trophy drought with the Copa del Rey last year.

Sevilla Team News: Key doubts

Winter transfer window signing Akor Adams, who joined from Montpellier Herault, remains sidelined due to a thigh issue alongside fellow winter signing Ruben Vargas, whilst Serbia international Nemanja Gudelj is also potentially unavailable.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nyland; Jose Angel Carmona, Bade, Kike Salas, Adria Pedrosa; Agoume, Sow; Lukebakio, Saul, Ejuke; Isaac Romero

Unavailable: Nianzou (Injured)

Questionable: Gudelj (Injured), Vargas (Injured), Adams (Injured)

Athletic Bilbao Team News: Oihan Sancet a doubt

Centre-back Yeray Alvarez was sent off against Roma in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa League tie and the Basque club missed him in midweek but he will return this weekend. Key man Oihan Sancet remains a doubt, though, as they travel down south.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Unai Simon; Andoni Gorosabel, Yeray, Aitor Paredes, Boiro; Mikel Jauregizar, Benat Prados; Alex Berenguer, Unai Gomez, Nico Williams; Inaki Williams

Unavailable: Dani Vivian (Injured)

Questionable: Oihan Sancet (Injured)

Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction

Garcia Pimienta is known for playing a generally attacking style of football but the Andalusians have been underwhelming in the final third. They look a little limited with Dodi Lukebakio often their only legitimate and realistic goal threat. They now face an Athletic side that may well be fatigued after their clash against Roma the other day. However, they remain the favourites here, albeit it may not be convincing.

Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Tip: Double chance – Athletic Club to win or draw
