Expert prediction for Scotland’s chances at FIFA World Cup 2026
It is an extremely tough group for Scotland. The fact that we now have eight of the third-placed teams going through will give them hope but that hasn’t really helped at the UEFA European Championships for them.
There is so much riding on their first game against Haiti because three points may well be enough to squeeze into the Round of 32 but only if their goal difference remains relatively intact – and so a comfortable win may well be required.
Given the familiarity with conditions for the Haitians, and the general limitations in attack of the Scots, it wouldn’t be surprising if their first FIFA World Cup game in 28 years, filled with nerves, does not produce a convincing performance and positive result ahead of extremely difficult games against strong sides in Morocco and Brazil.
It may well be that Scotland crash out again in the group stages, for what would be a record-extending ninth time out of nine, assuming they get nothing out of their clashes with Morocco and Brazil after beginning their campaign by failing to put many goals, if any at all, past a weak Haiti.
