Sassuolo preview: Struggling Sassuolo

Having lost manager Fabio Grosso to big spending Fiorentina over the summer, Sassuolo appointed former Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani and they have underperformed throughout the campaign.

I Neroverdi have won just two of their nine matches so far this season and they now head into this weekend on the back of being demolished by six goals to two at home to Lazio in midweek.

Fiorentina preview: Struggling Tuscans

Three successive defeats to kick off the campaign saw Fiorentina then opt to sack Grosso and bring back Paolo Vanoli with I Viola having spent big over the summer to avoid another relegation battle as they were involved in last season.

Fiorentina begin the match day in the bottom three and the relegation places but they did manage to snatch a draw with Atalanta in midweek, coming from behind to go ahead but then concede again to make it one win in nine matches.

Sassuolo team news: Thorstvedt suspended

Having been sent off in that hammering against Lazio, Kristian Thorstvedt is now missing through suspension for Sassuolo with other absentees including the injures Ismael Kone and Daniel Boloca.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Turati; Cinquegrano, Caleta-Car, Odenthal, Doig; Adzic, Lipani, Bakola; Berardi, Esposito, Lauriente

Fiorentina team news: Pongracic out

Versatile Croatia international defender Marin Pongracic suffered a thigh injury last weekend and so he is sidelined alongside both Fabiano Parisi and Arthur Atta.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): David de Gea; Alex Jimenez, Dragusin, Viery, Joao Mario; Ndour, Fagioli, Brescianini; Mastantuono, Mateo Pellegrino, Njie

Unavailable: Pongracic (Injured), Parisi (Injured), Atta (Injured)

Questionable: Ranieri (Injured)

Sassuolo vs Fiorentina prediction

Fiorentina’s 2-2 draw with Atalanta did display another much-improved performance as was the case against defending champions Internazionale at San Siro last weekend in a game in which they led before heading into second half stoppage-time. They are showing some signs of life, while Sassuolo are drifting again and so siding with the visitors would appear the way to go for this one.

Sassuolo vs Fiorentina tip: Double chance – Fiorentina to win or draw
