Roma preview: Ruined Romans

Gian Piero Gasperini and his Roma side succumbed to a very frustrating midweek defeat to Bologna in the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League, losing after extra-time at the Stadio Olimpico.

After a first-leg 1-1 draw in the all-Italian European tie, Roma then fought back from 3-1 down on the night to take the second-leg to extra-time before conceding a 111th minute winner scored by Nicolo Cambiaghi.

Lecce preview: Struggling Lecce

With former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco, the man that oversaw the relegation of Frosinone in 2024 and Venezia in 2025, Lecce are still in danger, hovering just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.

Lecce come into this one on the back of three defeats in their last four matches in Serie A, having been edged past by two goals to one at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last weekend against defending champions Napoli.

Roma team news: Wesley suspended

Named in Brazil’s upcoming squad, right-back Wesley is missing through suspension with Roma having a key quartet of injuries, such as Matias Soule, Paulo Dybala, Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Ghilardi, Mancini, Mario Hemoso; Celik, Cristante, Pisilli, Angelino; Pellegrini, El Shaarawy; Malen

Unavailable: Wesley (Suspended), Matias Soule (Injured), Dybala (Injured), Ferguson (Injured), Dovbyk (Injured)

Questionable: Kone (Injured)

Lecce team news: Banda a doubt

Key attacker Lameck Banda is now a doubt for Lecce this weekend, while Kialonda Gaspar remains sidelined alongside Lassana Coulibaly and Francesco Camarda.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Falcone; Veiga, Siebert, Tiago Gabriel, Gallo; Ramadani, Ngom; Pierotti, N’Dri, Cheddira; Stulic

Unavailable: Gaspar (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured), Camarda (Injured)

Questionable: Berisha (Injured), Banda (Injured)

Roma vs Lecce prediction

Atalanta were one of the best teams to watch under Gasperini but they haven’t quite been efficient and fluent enough in the final third throughout this campaign. Lecce are the joint lowest scorers in Serie A with just 21 scored so far this season. The Romans should still come out on top, especially with their home advantage, but it is expected to be a low-scoring encounter.

Roma vs Lecce tip: Roma to win & under 3.5 goals
