Freiburg preview: First big setback

It will be interesting to see how Freiburg respond to adversity after falling to their first Bundesliga defeat of the season last weekend, going down 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen. This came after Freiburg had racked up 13 points from their opening five league matches, which had left them top of the table at one point.

However, the only two league matches that have seen Freiburg drop points have come on the road. At home, they’ve been flawless with three wins from three, including most recently against 2. Bundesliga winners Schalke 04.

Bayern Munich preview: Kompany health overshadows football

The priorities of Bayern Munich right now are firmly with their head coach, with Vincent Kompany in hospital are set for a significant period of recovery after collapsing at the club’s training ground on Friday. His assistants will oversee the team in Freiburg, where they are looking to maintain their place at the top of the table following this latest round of fixtures.

In regards to their recent form, Bayern remain unbeaten in all competitions across the season and were at their ruthless best against RB Leipzig last time out in the Bundesliga, winning 6-1. They played out a 2-2 draw with Premier League champions Arsenal in the Champions League midweek.

Freiburg vs Bayern Munich prediction

Bayern Munich may be a juggernaut of a squad, but they have shown patches of vulnerability over the course of this season so far. Although the Rekordmeister are yet to lose, twice they’ve been held in the Bundesliga and are also coming off the back of consecutive draws in the Champions League. Therefore, Freiburg have reason to be optimistic of getting something here.

At home, Schuster’s side have been perfect and they boast not only the attacking capabilities to hurt what is a vulnerable Bayern defence, but also the defensive resilience to hold out under the severe pressure Bayern will surely inflict upon them. Therefore, it may prove a smart move to back the hosts gaining at least a point and potentially even taking all three.
