Lens could do with showing a response this weekend as the northerners now welcome a strong Paris FC side to Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday.

Lens preview: In-form in the league

Since returning from the extended international break, Lens have enjoyed back-to-back victories in Ligue 1 – most recently defeating newly-promoted strugglers Troyes by three goals to one last weekend at Stade de l’Aube.

However, in midweek, Lens succumbed to a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Belgian champions Club Brugge at the Jan Breydel Stadion in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League due to goals from Hans Vanaken, Joaquin Seys and Carlos Forbs.

Paris preview: Steady Parisians

Liam Rosenior sought to rebuild his reputation over the summer and would have been grateful for the opportunity to take charge of big spending and ambitious Paris FC – and it has been a strong start to their second season in the French top-flight.

The Parisians have lost just one of their opening seven matches as they begin the weekend sitting tucked inside the top three after a thrilling 4-3 defeat of Stade Rennais last week, courtesy of a 97th minute penalty scored by Lassine Sinayoko.

Lens team news: Ganiou a doubt

Key defender Pierre Ganiou sustained a knee injury last week and so he is now a doubt for this one with fellow defender Jonathan Gradit working himself back to full fitness.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Risser; Antonio, Baidoo, Todibo; Aguilar, Titraoui, Bulatovic, Skoras; Thauvin, Sotoca; Edouard

Unavailable: Nawrocki (Injured), Sima (Injured)

Questionable: Gradit (Fitness), Ganiou (Injured)

Paris team news: Ikone also a doubt

Key striker Jonathan Ikone sustained a thigh injury last week and is working his way back to full fitness with defender Nhoa Sangui still sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Trapp; Camara, Chergui, Coppola, Traore; Lopez, Lees-Melou; Kebbal, Pagis, Koleosho; Sinayoko

Unavailable: Sangui (Injured)

Questionable: Ikone (Fitness)

Lens vs Paris prediction

Paris had been quite circumspect in attack prior to that victory against Rennes. In fact, a third of the goals that they have scored came in that game – a game in which they conceded three Esteban Lepaul penalties. Lens themselves have attempted to have more control with Yannick Cahuzac replacing Dino Toppmoller in the dugout and, after their shellacking in Belgium in midweek, may not be too adventurous here and so a lower scoring contest seems a reasonable bet in Northern France.

Lens vs Paris tip: Under 2.5 goals
