Inter Milan preview: Much-needed UCL win

In midweek, Internazionale edged past Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk by a goal to nil at San Siro in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League with Carlos Augusto scoring a late winner after Alessandro Bastoni had been sent off.

The Nerazzurri had started their European campaign with defeats to Real Madrid and then Club Brugge but they have remained strong domestically with six victories and a draw as they sit at the top-of-the-table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

Fiorentina preview: Underperforming I Viola

Having been involved in a relegation battle last season, Fiorentina spent heavily over the summer but I Viola have once again struggled at the start of this campaign as they begin the match day in the bottom three and the relegation places.

After starting with three straight defeats, Fiorentina sacked Fabio Grosso and brought Paolo Vanoli back to the club. Vanoli began with four points collected in his first two games but they have since endured back-to-back defeats since the international break.

Inter Milan team news: A few absentees

England international duo John Stones and Curtis Jones remain sidelined for the champions with Benjamin Pavard and Lautaro Martinez having also sustained their own thigh injuries.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Josep Martinez; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Luis Henrique, Barella, Zielinski, Sucic, Dimarco; Thuram, Esposito

Unavailable: Stones (Injured), Pavard (Injured), Jones (Injured), L. Martinez (Injured)

Fiorentina team news: Ranieri a doubt

Versatile defender Luca Ranieri has suffered a foot injury and so he is now a doubt for this one with one of their big money summer signings, Arthur Atta, also remaining a doubt for the visitors.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Alex Jimenez, Dragusin, Pongracic, Viery; Ndour, Fagioli; Mastantuono, Goncalves, Njie; Mateo Pellegrino

Unavailable: Parisi (Injured)

Questionable: Ranieri (Injured), Atta (Injured)

Inter Milan vs Fiorentina prediction

After losing 2-1 to fellow strugglers Genoa, Fiorentina then succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at home to a slick Como side last week. They boast an impressive squad but one whereby the players have yet to gel nor appear to have a clear tactical identity to play towards. Inter themselves have not been at their best and they have been fairly lax defensively but they remain firm favourites to maintain top spot once again this weekend.
