Rijeka managed to clamber their way to the top of the Croatian table last season, for just the second time ever, after they took advantage of Dinamo Zagreb’s underwhelming campaign.
They face a Ludogorets Razgrad side that managed to overcome Belarusian champions Dinamo Minsk in a hotly contested first qualifying round affair earlier this month. In the first-leg, Ludogorets won by a goal to nil before then suffering a 2-1 loss to Dinamo Minsk in the second-leg, but Rui Mota’s Bulgarians managed to squeeze through to the second qualifying round after extra-time.
Ludogorets have shown they have perhaps declined in the last decade or so, so backing Rijeka for this first-leg, especially with their home advantage, appears the way to go for this one.
