SV Elversberg preview: Reality bites

SV Elversberg were the story of the Bundesliga to begin the season after winning two from two to begin life in the German top flight. However, the harsh realities of the Bundesliga are starting to take their toll on the newly promoted side, who have now picked up just a point from the last nine available to them.

Although they put up a great account of themselves against Bayern Munich, Elversberg haven’t scored since that game, playing out a 0-0 draw with fellow promoted side Schalke 04, before losing 1-0 to Union Berlin in the German capital.

Augsburg preview: Into European spots

Last season, Augsburg were single-handedly responsible for Bayern Munich not going through the entire Bundesliga campaign undefeated, having been the only club to beat them. Last weekend, they once again proved to be Bayern’s bogey-team, holding them to a 2-2 draw after twice going ahead against the Rekordmeister.

More importantly though, that point gained was enough to move Augsburg into the top six on goal difference, a big checkpoint for Manuel Baum and his players, who have lost just one of five league matches so far this season.

SV Elversberg team news: Injured trio absent

SV Elversberg won’t have Campbell, Onyeka or Seifert available for this game with all three out injured. Gyamerah meanwhile, is facing a race against time to prove his fitness.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kristof: Sirch, Pinckert, Rohr, Gunther: Keidel, Poreba: Petkov, Darvich, Zimmerschied: Mowka

Unavailable: Campbell (Injured), Onyeka (Injured), Seifert (Injured)

Questionable: Gyamerah (Injured)

Augsburg team news: Stable line-up

Augsburg have the benefit of a solid core within their squad, although five players will miss this game due to injury, those being Banks, Breithaupt, Claude-Maurice, Mounie and Sakar.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Dahmen: Bah, Matsima, Brackelmann: Wolf, Massengo, Rieder, Behrens: Kade, Gregoritsch, Fellhauer

Unavailable Banks (Injured), Breithaupt (Injured), Claude-Maurice (Injured), Mounie (Injured), Sakar (Injured)

Questionable:

Will both teams score in this match?

SV Elversberg vs Augsburg prediction

With the honeymoon period well and truly over now for SV Elversberg, Manuel Baum’s Augsburg will surely see this as a very winnable game on the road against a squad who are perhaps starting to tire both physically and mentally, such is the huge challenge of top flight football in Germany for a newly promoted club.

Last time out on the road, Augsburg were beaten 3-2 by Werder Bremen and they will have learnt a lot from that game. Expect the visitors to have tightened up defensively and with the attacking tools at their disposal, they are likely to find the net at least once when considering their out of form opponents. With that in mind, backing Augsburg, albeit via the safety of the draw no bet market looks a shrewd move.
