The onus is on Borussia Dortmund to react away at Union Berlin after losing hold of top spot in the Bundesliga last weekend.

Union Berlin preview: Finally a winner

After what has been a horrible start to the season which saw them enter last weekend inside the automatic relegation spots, Union Berlin finally put three points on the board in an edgy, but much-needed one-goal victory over newly promoted Elversberg. Now it’s about them making sure that result wasn’t a flash in the pan.

It was a contest lacking quality but when you consider the start that Elversberg have made to the season, getting the better of them in no mean feat and deserves praise. Make no mistake, it was a huge result for Mauro Lustrinelli.

Borussia Dortmund preview: Gamble does not pay off

With an artificial pitch to contend with, not to mention the freezing cold, Niko Kovac shuffled things around away to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League, a decision which wound up backfiring badly. The Norwegians took down a Borussia Dortmund side lacking ideas and attacking bite. It was their first defeat in all competitions this season since the Super Cup.

Star striker Serhou Guirassy being left on the bench was a clear mistake. Karetsas and Inacio did not impress either side of Fabio Silva. Despite four subs on the hour mark, it was too late for Dortmund, meaning they’ve now not won in each of their last two games.

Union Berlin team news: Waiting on a few names

Union Berlin will check on the likes of Emmanuel Latte Lath and Josip Juranovic before making a call on their involvement in this game but both Ilic and Markgraf are set to miss out.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Ronnow: Haberer, Van den Bosch, Uduokhai, Rothe: Aebischer, Schafer, Khedira, Imeri: Jeong, Skarke

Unavailable: Ilic (Injured), Markgraf (Injured)

Questionable: Lathe Lath (Injured), Nsoki (Injured), Juranovic (Injured)

Borussia Dortmund team news: Guirassy back in

Expect Serhou Guirassy back in the starting line-up after being rested midweek and he could reunite with Fabio Silva, with the two having combined well when playing together this season.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Kobel: Gadou, Anton, Schlotterbeck: Ryerson, Bellingham, Nmecha, Svensson: Karetsas, Guirassy, Silva

Unavailable Can (Injured), Konstantelias (Injured), Lerma (Injured)

Questionable:

Will Union Berlin get something from this match?

Union Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund prediction

It’s been a tough week of travel of Borussia Dortmund, who had to contend with the bitter cold of Norway and now find themselves in the German capital on the back of that Champions League defeat. They are running into what could be a resurgent Union Berlin following their long-awaited first win of the season.

Dortmund will need to be at their strongest defensively despite the deficiencies on Union. Confidence goes a long way and the hosts will be full of it. Throw in home advantage alongside potential fatigue from Kovac’s men and all the ingredients are in place for a potential upset. With that in mind, consider making use of the double chance market to back a Union win or draw.
