Real Oviedo preview: Playing for pride

Real Oviedo spent a long time out of La Liga and, after their playoff win at the end of last season, the Asturians have looked a little out of place back in the top-flight, making some odd choices but likely being better for the experience in years to come.

Oviedo do appear destined for an immediate return to the second-tier after a tough campaign, albeit they have shown fight - as was the case in their thrilling, tipsy turvy snatching of a draw against Real Sociedad last week that was an ultimately frustrating outcome.

Atletico Madrid preview: Additional Heading Here

Atletico Madrid have put in some brilliant performances this season and they were at their best in midweek as an Alexander Sorloth hat-trick helped them see off Club Brugge in the knockout playoff round of the UEFA Champions League.

That came on the back of a Sorloth brace helped Los Rojiblancos defeat Athletic Club by four goals to two at the Metropolitano last week. The visitors’ last five matches have consisted of 24 goals across all competitions.

Real Oviedo team news: Defensive issues

Oviedo are dealing with a couple of issues at the back for this one as Eric Bailly is now a doubt, while fellow centre-back David Costas is a confirmed injury absentee, too.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Aaron; Nacho Vidal, Dani Calvo, Carmo, Javi Lopez; Sibo, Dendoncker; Hassan, Alberto Reina, Ilyas Chaira; Fede Vinas

Unavailable: David Costas (Injured)

Questionable: Bailly (Injured), Ejaria (Ineligible)

Atletico Madrid team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Atleti this weekend as Nico Gonzalez is a doubt, while midfielder Pablo Barrios remains a confirmed absentee.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Oblak; Nahuel Molina, Jose Maria Gimenez, Lenglet, Ruggeri; Giuliano Simeone, Koke, Johnny, Alex Baena; Lookman, Sorloth

Unavailable: Pablo Barrios (Injured)

Questionable: Gonzalez (Injured)

Real Oviedo vs Atletico Madrid prediction

That draw for Oviedo last week saw them take a 2-0 lead, go 3-2 down late on and then snatch an equaliser - which is the second time that identical sequence has happened to them this season and will contribute to their relegation because, even when at close to their best, they drop points. Atleti have a Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg with Barcelona to distract themselves with coming up - and they will be slightly nervous despite a 4-0 aggregate lead. Oviedo have been due a famous win this year and, up against one of the most infuriatingly inconsistent teams in Europe, with distractions ahead, it could well be on Saturday night.
