Paris Saint-Germain preview: Brilliant PSG

Paris Saint-Germain come into this one on the back of a more reactive display that still resulted in a 2-0 defeat of Liverpool at Anfield to complete a 4-0 aggregate victory in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

The Parisians, with Luis Enrique at the helm, have now enjoyed six successive victories across all competitions and, after a generally inconsistent season for large parts, they have begun to rediscover their peak from the spring last year.

Lyon preview: Much-needed win

Earlier on in this calendar year, Lyon set a club-record winning streak as they enjoyed 13 successive victories before an outright collapse with a nine-match winless run immediately following that, including their elimination from two cup competitions.

However, reeling from being knocked out of the UEFA Europa League as well as the Coupe de France, Lyon have reignited their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification with a desperately needed defeat of an out of form Lorient last weekend.

Paris Saint-Germain team news: A few doubts

PSG are dealing with a few doubts for this weekend as left-back Nuno Mendes potentially sidelined alongside midfield duo Fabian Ruiz and Desire Doue.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Chevalier; Zaire-Emery, Zabarnyi, Beraldo, Hernandez; Dro, Mayulu, Lee; Barcola, Ramos, Mbaye

Unavailable: Ndjantou (Injured)

Questionable: Mendes (Injured), Fabian Ruiz (Injured), Doue (Injured)

Lyon team news: Tagliafico suspended

Argentina international defender Nicolas Tagliafico is missing through suspension, while versatile attacking trio Pavel Sulc, Ernest Nuamah and Malick Fofana are all injury doubts.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Greif; Kango, Clinton Mata, Niakhate, Abner; Maitland-Niles, Morton; Ghezzal, Nartey, Endrick; Yaremchuk

Unavailable: Tagliafico (Suspended), Himbert (Injured)

Questionable: Sulc (Injured), Nuamah (Injured), Fofana (Injured)

Paris Saint-Germain vs Lyon prediction

Lyon’s impressive win against Lorient was a desperate one with Paulo Fonseca, who had been in charge when setting that record, almost inexplicably beginning to come under pressure. They now travel to the French capital city knowing they can throw a spanner in the works of the hosts’ defence of their Ligue 1 title, especially if Lens have won on the Friday night. Even with that, and the probability of them creating some clear-cut chances, PSG are firm favourites once again.
