Paris Saint-Germain preview: Dominant Parisiens

Having reached the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup this summer before a defeat to Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain returned to action to win silverware last week as they came from 2-0 down to defeat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup.

Luis Enrique’s side then began the defence of their Ligue 1 title with a hard-fought victory at Stade de la Beaujoire in Brittany, defeating Nantes by a goal to nil with a winning goal scored by Vitinha mid-way through the second-half.

Angers preview: Likely strugglers

Having gained promotion back to the top-flight in the 2023/24 season, Angers managed to steer themselves clear of the bottom three and the danger zone in Ligue 1 last year, and Alexandre Dujeux has remained in charge of the visitors for this season.

They began their campaign with their own slender 1-0 victory on the opening day last season, as they defeated newly-promoted Paris. Emmanuel Lepaul opened the scoring after nine minutes and they still saw it out despite Louis Mouton’s 57th minute red card.

Paris Saint-Germain team news: Full strength for the homecoming

PSG heavily rotated last week and now the European champions return home for the first time since their treble win, and they will likely go full strength for this weekend.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Mendes; Vitinha, Neves, Fabian Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Unavailable:

Questionable: Kimpembe (Illness), Mayulu (Injured)

Angers team news: Mouton suspended

As a result of Louis Mouton’s aforementioned red card on the opening day of the campaign, the central midfielder is now missing the trip to the capital due to suspension.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Koffi; Arcus, Camara, Lefort; Raolisoa, Belkelba, Belkhdim, Hanin; Allevinah, Cherif; Lepaul

Unavailable: Mouton (Suspended)

Questionable:

Paris Saint-Germain vs Angers prediction

Angers’ natural style of football is quite defensive and that is how they will set up here and set up through the season as they seek to simply survive in Ligue 1 this year. However, they are coming up against a PSG side that, despite a lack of pre-season preparation, have found the keys to unlocking low defensive blocks and, with a full strength side, should romp to victory in Paris.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Angers tip: Paris Saint-Germain to win -2 handicap
