Despite India playing away from home, their players have been playing plenty of T20i cricket over the past month or so, which gives them an advantage against New Zealand, who haven’t played a T20i since all the way back in May. Whilst the Black Caps have named a strong squad, adapting to the rigours of T20i cricket as a collective unit won’t be easy straight away.
There is always a chance, one or two New Zealand players have a big game with the bat which can mask deficiencies. But for the home bowlers especially, facing an Indian side firmly in T20 mode with lots of recent playtime in the shortest format is a tough test. This serves as a big opportunity for India to get an early jump on New Zealand and backing the visitors looks a smart play.
