South Africa vs Australia prediction

Australia took game one of this highly anticipated test series against South Africa, winning by 214 runs in an impressive all-round showing. To think, it wasn’t looking good for them early on in the test after being reduced to 124/6 despite winning the toss and batting first. But Matt Renshaw on his return to the side proved to be the difference-maker, striking a magnificent 190 to help drag Australia to a strong first innings score of 390.

Renshaw then added another 82 in his side’s second innings as Australia’s bowlers took over, proving too strong for the South African batting order in what was a surprisingly disappointing display from the Proteas. Changes have been made for the second test, with Tristan Stubbs dropped and Kyle Verreynne set to lose the gloves.

But the focus should be on Renshaw, who is making a big statement at the back end of 2026 and with an Australian summer coming up, followed by an Ashes year, every run he makes is pivotal. In-form and confident, back Renshaw to put another sizeable number of runs on the board in Gqeberha, regardless of who wins out in this second test.

South Africa vs Australia tip: Matt Renshaw to score 70+ runs
