Ireland deserves huge credit for beating both the sun and Namibia in what was the perfect start to this long ODI series. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Paul Stirling’s side put 229 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets, and that proved to be enough, with a strong bowling performance seeing Stirling’s men bowl out Namibia for 174.
Ireland do need at least one of their top batters to put together a big score if they are to sustain this success, with Harry Tector and Andrew Balbirnie two players capable of such knocks. However, there’s plenty of reason for optimism if you’re the tourists. Namibia disappointed from a batting perspective, and with Irish tails up, it would be no surprise to see the visitors capitalise and pick up game two as well.
