Monza Preview: Relegated Monza

Monza have been relegated to Serie B as they sit 12 points adrift of safety with four games to go but they have a worse head-to-head record against Lecce, who sit fourth-from-bottom in Serie A and themselves remain in danger in these final few weeks.

The home team come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Juventus at the Allianz Stadium in Turin last weekend with first-half goals scored by Nicolas Gonzalez and Randal Kolo Muani before Kenan Yildiz was then sent off in first-half stoppage-time.

Atalanta Preview: Bergamasci saving the season

Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta begin the 35th match day of the 2024/25 Serie A campaign sitting tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots but they are consistently stuttering after what was a mid-season collapse.

The Bergamasci had recently recovered from back-to-back losses with back-to-back victories but they now come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with the aforementioned struggling Lecce at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo last weekend.

Atalanta are dealing with a few injury issues this weekend as defenders Stefan Posch, Giorgio Scalvini and Sead Kolasinac all have concerns alongside Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Kossounou, Hien, Djimsiti; Bellanova, De Roon, Ederson, Zappacosta; Pasalic, Lookman; Retegui

Unavailable: Scalvini (Injured), Kolasinac (Injured), Scamacca (Injured)

Questionable: Posch (Injured)

Monza vs Atalanta Prediction

Monza have endured a very difficult and weird season with Alessandro Nesta sacked a few months ago but then brought back within a month of the then Salvatore Bocchetti era. They now face an Atalanta side that haven’t been convincing at all for around five or six months but they can still qualify for the UEFA Champions League to salvage their season with Gasperini experiencing some off-field squabbles with players such as Ademola Lookman. Despite all of that uncertainty, Atalanta are still expected to win this one quite comfortably.

Monza vs Atalanta Tip: Atalanta to win -1 handicap
