Mexico name FIFA World Cup squad featuring Guillermo Ochoa, Edson Alvarez and Raul Jimenez
Mexico manager Javier Aguirre has announced his 26-man squad for FIFA World Cup 2026.
As they prepare to co-host a third FIFA World Cup, this time alongside the United States and Canada, former Mexico boss Javier Aguirre has named his very experienced 26-man squad for FIFA World Cup 2026.
Perhaps headlining that experience is the fact that 40-year-old goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who turns 41 in the final week of the tournament, has made the squad ahead of the likes of Luis Malagon, Jose Antonio Rodriguez, Carlos Moreno and Alex Padilla with Ochoa having an excellent chance to be the first-choice at what is his sixth FIFA World Cup.
Edson Alvarez will make it to 100 caps at this tournament for El Tri and the former West Ham United defensive midfielder is the captain of the side with Fulham striker Raul Jimenez still the star attraction up-front.
Competing for a starting spot alongside Jimenez, AC Milan attacker Santiago Gimenez provides further firepower alongside the versatile Julian Quinones, who has been excellent in the Saudi Pro League for Brendan Rodgers’ Al Qadsiah in recent seasons.
Hirving Lozano, a man who has previously been the key man for Mexico at a FIFA World Cup, is one of the most notable absentees for the Mexicans with former Real Betis man Diego Lainez also missing out alongside Celtic full-back Julian Araujo.
At the back, 31-year-old full-back Jesus Gallardo, with over 100 caps for his country, will again be key alongside Lokomotiv Moscow’s Cesar Montes and Genoa defender Johan Vasquez.
