Matteo Berrettini vs Matteo Arnaldi prediction

Matteo Berrettini advanced to his first quarter-final at a major since the 2022 US Open as he beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo in straight sets. Cerundolo had pulled off the upset of the tournament after taking down world number one Jannik Sinner and he then won his next match against Martin Landaluce after nearly six hours, but he was second best from the start here as Berrettini won 6-3 7-6 (2) 7-6 (8). Cerundolo had his opportunities in the third set as he failed to serve it out and also had three set points in the tiebreak, but Berrettini would win the final five points to seal victory. Ranked 105 in the world, Berrettini is the highest ranked player to make the last eight at Roland Garros since Igor Andreev in 2007.

He will now face compatriot Matteo Arnaldi for a place in the semi-finals. Arnaldi continued his run at the tournament as he fought back to beat Frances Tiafoe in a five set epic. Tiafoe looked on course for a second successive quarter-final appearance at the event as he led 4-1 40-15 in the fourth set while already leading by two sets to one. However, Arnaldi broke back twice and forced a deciding set. He held his nerve to win 7-6 (5) 6-7 (5) 3-6 7-6 (3) 6-4 after five hours and 26 minutes.

Remarkably, Arnaldi has spent more time on court en route to the quarter-finals than any player at a Grand Slam since ATP records began recording match times in 1991. Both of these Italians have enjoyed a resurgence in Paris after enduring significant injury setbacks in recent years. Berrettini will look to shorten the rallies with his strong serve and forehand, while Arnaldi may have the upper hand when the points are extended.
