Malta are a minnow but have at least been improving in the UEFA Nations League as they now take on a strong Netherlands side in FIFA World Cup qualification.

How to watch online: UK – Amazon Prime / US – Disney+

Key stats

  • The Netherlands have won all the previous seven international matches between these teams without conceding a goal.
  • Malta have won only one of their last 29 World Cup qualifying matches (D5 L23).
  • The Netherlands are unbeaten in their last 13 World Cup qualifying matches (W10 D3).
  • Memphis Depay has scored 17 goals in his last 12 appearances in World Cup qualifying.

Malta vs Netherlands prediction

Their form and performance level in the UEFA Nations League may have gone up to make them a little more competitive in FIFA World Cup qualification but the Maltese come into this one on the back of having collected just two points from their five matches thus far.

They now face a Netherlands side that, coached by Ronald Koeman, come into this one on the back of a very worrying September international break. They shared a 1-1 draw with Poland before then needing a second-half winner to defeat a poor Lithuania side by three goals to two in Vilnius.

The Dutch have a very strong squad across the park and they will fancy their chances of pushing themselves past Malta with relative ease in Ta ‘Qali this week.

Malta vs Netherlands tip: Netherlands to win -1 handicap
