Mainz preview: Mid-table Mainz
After a brilliant campaign whereby they achieved UEFA Europa Conference League qualification last season, Mainz had to bring in Urs Fischer mid-way through the campaign as they battled against relegation and it was an inspired decision.
However, they head into this one on the back of a frustrating three-match winless run of form, including a 4-0 defeat to lose 4-2 on aggregate to Strasbourg in the quarter-finals of the UECL last week.
Bayern Munich preview: Brilliant Bayern
Vincent Kompany and his Bayern Munich side are chasing the treble this season with the Bavarians moving into the DFB-Pokal final in midweek, courtesy of a 2-0 defeat of Bayer Leverkusen with goals scored by Harry Kane and Luis Diaz.
The Bavarians were crowned champions last week as they hammered a strong Stuttgart side last weekend, a few days after defeating Real Madrid by six goals to four on aggregate in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Mainz team news: A few injuries
There is nothing fresh for Mainz but the hosts do have some injuries to deal with as Maxim Leitsch and Maxim Dal work their way back, while Lee Jae-sung remains unavailable due to a toe injury with Silas and Benedict Hollerbach also unavailable.
Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Batz; Da Costa, Posch, Kohr; Caci, Sano, Nebel, Veratsching; Amiri; Tietz, Becker
Unavailable: Hollerbach (Injured), Silas (Injured), Lee (Injured)
Questionable: Dal (Injured), Leitsch (Injured)
Bayern Munich team news: Probable rotation
After returning to a full strength lineup against Leverkusen, Bayern will now likely rotate again but Lennart Karl does remain sidelined alongside both Tom Bischof and Serge Gnabry.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Kim, Ito, Davies; Goretzka, Pavlovic; Olise, Musiala, Guerreiro; Jackson
Unavailable: Bischof (Injured), Karl (Injured), Gnabry (Injured)
Questionable: Ulreich (Injured)
Mainz vs Bayern Munich prediction
Mainz’ second-half of the season has been brilliant but they have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of a top seven or eight finish with just one point collected from their last two matches in the Bundesliga. Their improvement did begin with a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena against Bayern in December but this is a Bayern side that appear faultless at the moment, even when they rotate which is likely again, and a fun away win seems likely once again.
