Levante preview: Entertaining Levante
Levante gained promotion to top-flight last season playing an impressive style of football with Julian Calero at the helm, and their summer transfer window has been an ambitious one with a lot of European pedigree and experience brought in.
The hosts began their 2025/26 campaign with a dramatic 2-1 loss to Deportivo Alaves at Mendizorroza in the Basque Country in a game in which they had perhaps shaded things before conceding a second-half stoppage-time winner to fellow likely strugglers.
Barcelona preview: Brilliant Blaugrana
Barcelona were rampant last season as they won the domestic double and Hansi Flick’s Blaugrana will be hungry for more after strengthening over the summer, and the Catalans will be aiming to go deep on all fronts in the 2025/26 season.
They began the defence of their La Liga title with an impressive 3-0 hammering of Real Mallorca in the Balearic Islands last weekend with another brilliant strike scored by Lamine Yamal alongside goals from Raphinha and Ferran Torres.
Levante team news: Several doubts
Ahead of the visit of Barcelona to Valencia this weekend, the hosts have a few key injury doubts such as new signings Alan Matturro, Kervin Arriaga and Goduine Koyalipou.
Predicted XI (3-4-3): Pablo Cunat; Dela,Unai Elgezabal, Jorge Cabello; Toljan, Pablo Martinez, Oriol Rey, Manu Sanchez; Victor Garcia, Ivan Romero, Brugui
Unavailable: Alfonso Pastor (Injured)
Questionable: Matturro (Injured), Kervin Arriaga (Injured), Jon Olasagasti (Injured), Koyalipou (Injured)
Barcelona team news: Lewa still a doubt
Robert Lewandowski has not yet returned to full fitness from his leg injury and so Ferran Torres is expected to remain up-front, with Marcus Rashford an impact sub for Barca.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Joan Garcia; Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, Alex Balde; De Jong, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Raphinha; Ferran Torres
Unavailable: Ter Stegen (Injured), Marc Bernal (Injured)
Questionable: Dani Rodriguez (Ineligible), Lewandowski (Injured)
Levante vs Barcelona prediction
Levante were a bit more dogged and defensive last weekend, but they away from home. The hosts are expected to eventually return to their more progressive style, but perhaps not in this one. They aren’t likely to be as resolute as Mallorca would be, and Barcelona still whacked three goals past them without hitting their heights. The Blaugrana have already hit their groove and they should make it back-to-back comfortable victories to kick off their La Liga campaign.
Levante vs Barcelona tip: Barcelona to win -1 handicap
