Lecce preview: Back-to-back defeats

Lecce had shown some improvement in attack in the opening few weeks of the campaign but, under the management of former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco, they do now head into this one on the back of back-to-back defeats.

After succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at home to Juventus last weekend, Lecce then suffered a 5-1 annihilation at the hands of high-flying Frosinone at Stadio Benito Stripe in Rome a few days ago.

Genoa preview: Back-to-back victories

Daniele De Rossi was coming under a bit of pressure with Genoa having failed to win any of their opening five matches but the Genovese have now managed three victories in their last four matches as they head down south.

In midweek, Genoa eased to an impressive 2-0 defeat of a stuttering Juventus side at the Luigi Ferraris in Liguria in midweek, courtesy of first half goals scored by Kingsley Ehizibue and Tommaso Baldanzi.

Lecce team news: Defensive issues

Kialonda Gaspar was sent off against Juventus last week with fellow starting centre-back Tiago Gabriel forced off due to injury and the former remains suspended with the latter still a doubt.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Falcone; Siebert, Jean, Ndaba; Veiga, Maleh, Ngom, Gandelman, Gallo; Monteiro, Paco Esteban

Unavailable: Gaspar (Suspended), Ilic (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured), Berisha (Injured), Pierotti (Injured)

Questionable: Tiago Gabriel (Injured)

Genoa team news: Ellertsson a doubt

Mikael Ellertsson is a fresh doubt for Genoa this weekend due to an ankle injury with attacking duo Elias Havel and Lorenzo Venturino remaining absentees for the visitors.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Bijlow; Marcandalli, Ostigard, Johan Vasquez; Ehizibue, Amorim, Frendrup, Mitaj; Vitinha, Baldanzi; Osmajic

Unavailable: Havel (Injured), Venturino (Injured)

Questionable: Ellertsson (Injured)

  • Lecce have kept clean sheets in the last two meetings (0-0 away on 23 August 2025 and 1-0 at home), but have won only two of their 14 Serie A meetings with Genoa since 1994/95 (D5 L7).

  • All ten of Genoa's points have come at home this season (W3 D1 L2) – they have lost all three away games, scoring once.
  • Genoa are winless in six Serie A away games (D2 L4) since a 2-1 win at Pisa on 19 April 2026, scoring only once in that run.
  • Genoa matches have averaged 2.33 goals this season, joint-second-lowest in Serie A.

Lecce vs Genoa prediction

Lecce have shown a bit more promise in the final third as they evolve their style but, as is pretty much always the case, Di Francesco becoming more attacking often undermines results. They now face a Genoa side that head to Stadio Comunale Via del Mare in good form and pushing towards the middle-of-the-table and so siding with the visitors would appear the way to go for this one in Apulia.

Lecce vs Genoa tip: Double chance – Genoa to win or draw
