Jordan qualified for FIFA World Cup 2026 after finishing second of their group in the third round of the AFC qualification stage. After receiving a bye through the first round, the second round saw 36 teams drawn into nine groups with four, with Jordan finishing top of Group G on 13 points having won four, drawn one and lost one of their six games.
The 18 teams who qualified through the second round were placed into three groups of six in the third round with the top two in each group qualifying for FIFA World Cup 2026. Jordan finished second-place in Group B on 16 points, below unbeaten Korea Republic but one point above third-placed Iraq.
Confirmation of Jordan’s FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification came on June 5, 2025 after a 0-3 draw away to Oman in the penultimate round of group matches. Defeat would’ve seen Bosnia-Herzegovina qualify automatically instead as Group G winners and Jordan forced to compete in the second-round play-offs.
Who are Jordan’s star players?
Forward Ali Olwan (Al-Sailiya) was Jordan’s top scorer in qualifying with nine goals and has a big role to play offensively with over 25 international goals over the course of his career. It was Olwan’s hat-trick against over Oman that sealed Jordan’s place at FIFA World Cup 2026.
Olwan will be supported by fellow attacker Mousa Al-Tamari (Rennes), whose pace on the wing in particular likely to prove extremely valuable. A key player for Ligue 1 side Rennes, he is capable of operating on either flank.
Defender Yazan Al Arab (FC Seoul) is an important player in Jordan’s backline and will be crucial to their hopes of success when considering the quality of attacking players they will be up against at FIFA World Cup 2026.

Expert prediction for Jordan’s chances at FIFA World Cup 2026
Just reaching the FIFA World Cup 2026 finals for the very first time should be considered a success for Jordan, with any further progress beyond the group stage a bonus. However, they have been drawn into a difficult Group J and one can’t help but feel that they may find themselves out of their depth against the likes of Algeria, Austria and of course, defending champions Argentina.
Under Jamal Sellami, Jordan are a creative side with emphasis on strong wing-play and a fearless brand of football which has led them to this tournament. Don’t expect them to deploy ten players behind the ball whenever possible against stronger opponents on paper. However, one can’t help but feel that Jordan will find themselves outmatched in Group J and ultimately finish at the bottom of the table.
