Jannik Sinner vs Alex de Minaur Prediction

Jannik Sinner overcame some physical issues in his round of 16 clash with Holger Rune to win in four sets and make it through to the quarter-finals. He was clearly struggling with illness throughout the match and he had to dig deep to get the win and make it through. He will be hoping a little time between matches will help him recover but it has to be a concern for the top seed.

He now meets home favourite Alex de Minaur who was in excellent form in his last match as he comfortably dispatched Alex Michelsen in straight sets. He has only dropped one set in his four matches so far and he is playing some good confident tennis right now.

The head-to-head record does not make good reading for Alex de Minaur however as he has never beaten Sinner in nine attempts on the ATP Tour.

Such is Sinner’s dominance over De Minaur, the Italian has won 20 of the 21 sets they have played and the one set that the Australian did win back in 2020 came in a tiebreak.

The only real glimmer of light for De Minaur has to be Sinner’s illness. He will likely have been forced to rest between matches so it would be no surprise if Sinner starts slower than usual here and that could be an opening for De Minaur. Otherwise, it seems unlikely he will be able to snap this hoodoo especially over the best of five sets format. Even a slightly below-par Sinner is still favoured.
