Magdalena Frech was beaten in the first-round of the US Open, losing in straight sets to Iva Jovic. She fared better in Cincinnati, winning two matches against Antonia Ruzic and Jelena Ostapenko, before a defeat to three-time Grand Slam champion Elena Rybakina. Her highlight of the campaign was a run to the final of the Merida Open, where she lost to Cristina Bucsa in three sets.

She will play Nao Hibino in the first-round. The 31-year-old qualified for the event after back-to-back wins over the Ukrainian pair of Sofiia Bielinska and Nadiia Kichenok. That follows a second-round appearance at the WTA 125 event in Barranquilla, while at the US Open, she was beaten by Lucie Havlickova in the final qualifying stage. 

Frech leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a victory in Nottingham. She deserves to be seen as the favourite here, given the rankings gap and her fine record at this tournament, having won the tournament in 2024.
