Alycia Parks advanced at the Guadalajara Open after beating Varvara Lepchenko in a tight three set match. The American broke in the closing stages of the encounter to win 6-3 1-6 7-5. That will have been a welcome victory for the American after her straight sets loss to Taylah Preston at the US Open. She now faces third seed Sara Bejlek.

The Czech produced one of the best results of her career last month in Cincinnati, as she reached the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 event for the first time. Bejlek defeated world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the round-of-16, before a win over 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys. Her brilliant run ended against eventual winner Coco Gauff. She was expected to continue her form with a strong showing at the US Open, but was then beaten in the opening round by Cristina Bucsa.

Bejlek will hope to return to winning ways, and Parks will have to serve well if she is to remain competitive.
