Group C at FIFA World Cup 2026 is an extremely intriguing one with five-time world champions Brazil competing against African champions Morocco and a Scotland side that are back on the global stage for the first time since 1998. Haiti are the outsiders of the group, having managed to qualify for the first time since 1974.
Carlo Ancelotti is one of the biggest names in the dugout this summer and he has his work cut out to deliver on the huge expectations of the Brazilian public. The Selecao finished fifth in the ten-team CONMEBOL qualification table.
Morocco head into the tournament with new boss Mohamed Ouahbi, who led their U20 side to FIFA U20 World Cup glory last year, having replaced Walid Regragui, who guided The Atlas Lions to the final four in Qatar, becoming the first African side to reach that stage of a FIFA World Cup.
Scotland ended their major tournament hiatus with qualification for both UEFA EURO 2020 and UEFA EURO 2024, succumbing to group stage exits in both tournaments. They are back at the FIFA World Cup, where they hold the record for the most group stage exits โ eight.
Haiti have been able to welcome some players into their squad that are of dual-nationality, such as Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor, and they will require all of the experience and pedigree that they can get in such a strong set of four.
The opening game of the tournament for Scotland is huge because, with the third placed team going through, there is a reasonable chance they can, for the first time ever, squeeze into the knockouts of a FIFA World Cup. However, they may well need to rack up a high score against Haiti, given the quality of the other two sides.
Brazil remain favourites to come out on top in Group C, given their quality with the likes of Raphinha and Vinicius Junior, but finishing above Morocco will be no easy task.
We do still believe that the South Americans will claim top spot, albeit potentially narrowly. Scotland, though, are expected to be eliminated with the likelihood of their goal difference taking a bit of a beating and their style of football not well-suited to beating any side by a significant number of goals, not least in their first game back on the global stage along with everything that means and represents.
