Getafe Preview: Mid-table Getafe

In his second stint in charge of Getafe, Jose Bordalas has had them punching above their weight with a small and limited squad but the Madrid-based club have been coasting for a couple of months now with very little to play for in the final few weeks of the campaign.

The home team do come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Jose Bordalas’ former side Valencia at Mestalla at the weekend. That means they have now suffered five successive defeats in La Liga.

Athletic Bilbao Preview: Tucked in the top four

Athletic Club, on the other hand, should have now more or less confirmed a top five spot in La Liga and UEFA Champions League qualification with the Basque giants edging past regional rivals Deportivo Alaves by a goal to nil the other day thanks to a Manu Sanchez own goal.

It has been a deflating month or so for Ernesto Valverde’s side, though, after they suffered a 7-1 aggregate loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League with the UEFA Europa League final taking place at San Mames in Bilbao.

Getafe Team News: Couple of suspensions

Getafe are dealing with a couple of key suspension issues this midweek as defensive duo Djene and Juan Berrocal are both unavailable. As well as those two, striker Juanmi remains an injury doubt for the hosts.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): David Soria; Jorge Iglesias, Domingos Duarte, Omar Alderete, Diego Rico; Peter, Ramon Terrats, Luis Milla, Juan Bernat; Alvaro, Borja Mayoral

Unavailable: Djene (Suspended), Juan Berrocal (Suspended)

Questionable: Juanmi (Injured)

Athletic Bilbao Team News: Oihan Sancet returns

Attacking midfielder Oihan Sancet has returned to full fitness so he could be involved at the Coliseum this midweek. They remain without attacking duo Inaki Williams and Nico Williams as well as defensive midfielder Benat Prados.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Unai Simon; Oscar de Marcos, Dani Vivian, Yeray, Yuri Berchiche; Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta, Mikel Jauregizar; Unai Gomez, Oihan Sancet, Alvaro Djalo; Maroan Sannadi

Unavailable:

Questionable: Benat Prados (Injured), Inaki Williams (Injured), Nico Williams (Injured)

Getafe vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction

A key characteristic of the Jose Bordalas style of football is aggression and hostility towards their opponent and an intense defensive attitude. They have scored just 31 goals in their 35 games with only Real Sociedad having scored fewer than them. They now face an Athletic side that themselves have lacked goals of late with so many key absentees in the final third of the pitch. Athletic are favourites for what is expected to be a low-scoring affair at the Coliseum.

Getafe vs Athletic Bilbao Tip: Athletic Club to win & under 3.5 goals
