Patrick Vieira and his Genoa side may well be forgiven for coasting between now and the end of the season as they now take on a frustrated and underwhelming AC Milan side this weekend.

Genoa Preview: Mid-table Genoa

During the November international break, Genoa’s owners 777 Partners took the at the time bizarre and controversial decision to sack Alberto Gilardino and replace him with former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, leading to an improvement in their stability and solidity.

The home team have underwhelmed of late, though, as they come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Como at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia due to a 59th minute winner scored by Gabriel Strefezza to mean they have now won just two of their last nine matches in Serie A.

AC Milan Preview: Focus on the cup

Former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao is set to leave the club at the end of the season after just six months in charge despite the fact the Rossoneri won the Supercoppa Italiana in his second game in charge and the fact they are in the final of the Coppa Italia later this month.

Before the final of the cup against Bologna in a few weeks, AC Milan begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the middle-of-the-table in Serie A but the Rossoneri did unconvincingly manage to defeat Venezia by two goals to nil in Venice last weekend.

Genoa Team News: A few doubts

Genoa are dealing with several injury doubts ahead of the visit of Milan this weekend such as the likes of Ukraine international midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy and West Ham United loanee Maxwel Cornet.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Leali; Otoa, De Winter, Johan Vasquez, Caricol; Norton-Cuffy, Masini, Frendrup, Thorsby; Pinamonti, Vitinha

Unavailable: Miretti (Injured), Balotelli (Out of favour)

Questionable: Matturro (Injured), Onana (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured), Cornet (Injured), Ekuban (Injured)

AC Milan Team News: Jovic a doubt

Somewhat controversially given the reaction, Conceicao has switched the shape that Milan are playing from a 4-2-3-1 to a back three. Serbia international striker Luka Jovic has been in-form of late but he is now a doubt due to a back injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Alex Jimenez, Fofana, Reijnders, Hernandez; Pulisic, Abraham, Leao

Unavailable:

Questionable: Emerson Royal (Injured), Jovic (Injured)

Genoa vs AC Milan Prediction

Genoa have surprisingly been solid defensively under the management of Vieira. The hosts’ boss has a reputation for playing a more proactive style of football but they have since focused a lot more on being tight at the back. They face an AC Milan side that, aside from Christian Pulisic, are lacking almost any players in attack in rhythm and their overall play lacks cohesion and fluidity so a low-scoring affair appears likely for this one at the Luigi Ferraris.

Genoa vs AC Milan Tip: Under 3.5 goals
