Coached by former Barcelona youth coach Garcia Pimienta, Las Palmas started this season slowly but have found a groove as they begin the weekend sitting in the middle-of-the-table. The Canary Islanders were beaten by a goal to nil by Real Betis in their most recent outing, last weekend, continuing their generally low-scoring habits.
The hosts’ opening 14 matches of the 2023/24 La Liga campaign have consisted of just 24 goals with 11 scored and 13 conceded. Prior to their loss to Betis, they had suffered just one defeat in their previous seven matches across all competitions. They play an easy on the eye style of football but are generally ineffective in attack.
GETAFE
Under the management of Jose Bordalas, Getafe have returned to their old ways of being extremely irritating to watch for the neutral and play against for the opposition. The home team managed a 2-1 defeat of bottom-of-the-table Almeria last weekend as they move towards the top seven of the table and even consider another European challenge with Bordalas.
That 2-1 victory over the Andalusians means that the capital city club are unbeaten in their last nine matches across all competitions. They have conceded just seven goals in those nine games with more than half of those coming in two 2-2 draws against Athletic Club in the Basque Country and Celta Vigo in Galicia.
