THE LOWDOWN
SALERNITANA
Salernitana began the 2023/24 Serie A season really slowly and soon parted company with their Portuguese coach, Paulo Sousa, replacing him with Filippo Inzaghi. The legendary Italian striker has overseen a minor improvement in their performances but the hosts remain at the foot of the table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.
The home team do, though, come into this one on the back of a much-needed 1-0 defeat of Hellas Verona away from home, last weekend, prior to the New Year. Since then, though, they have been thrashed 6-1 by their upcoming opponents, Juventus, in the Round of 16 of this season’s Coppa Italia.
JUVENTUS
That 6-1 annihilation of Salernitana was very much out of character for a Juventus side that have returned to their old, winning habits of grinding out enough victories to become feared by most. The Old Lady, for example, have closed the gap on Inter at the top-of-the-table but have still managed to score just 27 goals in 18 matches so far this season.
Under the management of Massimiliano Allegri, Juve edged past Roma in a typical victory last weekend in a game that embodied the club motto of ‘winning isn’t everything, it is the only thing’. They are unbeaten in their last 13 Serie A matches and have not scored more than two goals in a game in that time.

THE PREDICTION
Salernitana were absolutely thrashed by Juventus in midweek but that one should really be seen as a bit of a one off with Filippo Inzaghi’s side unlikely to be handed back-to-back thrashings. The home team have been improving in Serie A and will likely frustrate a Juventus team that appear to thrive on being frustrated. Allegri forcing his team to grind out another victory to keep the pressure on Inter seems likely.
TIP: JUVENTUS TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
