THE LOWDOWN
MONZA
The death of former AC Milan owner and Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, would have had a fairly major impact on Monza, where he was heavily involved. They gained promotion to the top-flight for the first time ever in 2022 and remain an ambitious club so should be pushing towards the top-half this season.
They come into this on the back of a surprise 1-0 win away to Sassuolo last week, which has extended their current unbeaten run of form to four matches. They have conceded just seven goals but scored just five so far this season and are one of the least entertaining teams to watch in Italy’s top-flight.
SALERNITANA
After Salernitana gained promotion to Serie A, they narrowly avoided administrative relegation as they were owned by Claudio Lotito, who is also the owner of Lazio. They enjoyed a miraculous escape under the management of Davide Nicola but he has once again left the club with former Portugal manager Paulo Sousa being appointed over the summer.
Paulo Sousa remains in charge but is under serious pressure with Salernitana enduring a really difficult start to the 2023/24 campaign. They begin the weekend sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places with no victory in their opening seven matches; sharing three draws and suffering four defeats so far.
THE TEAM NEWS
MONZA
Armando Izzo remains a doubt for Monza this weekend as both Davide Bettella and Gianluca Caprari are out injured for the home team as well.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Di Gregorio; Caldirola, Mari, Carboni; Ciurria, Pessina, Gagliardini, Kyriakopoulos; Colpani, Colombo, Mota
UNAVAILABLE: Bettella (Injured), Caprari (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Izzo (Injured)
SALERNITANA
Paulo Sousa is missing a couple of key players for this weekend’s crucial game against Monza as both Lassana Coulibaly and Antonio Candreva are out injured.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Ochoa; Daniliuc, Gyomber, Lovato; Kastanos, Bohinen, Legowski, Bradaric; Martegani, Cabral; Dia
UNAVAILABLE: Candreva (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured)

THE PREDICTION
Both of these sides have underwhelmed at the start of this season but there is one real, clear favourite. Monza started slowly after the aforementioned uncertainty of the summer but three successive draws and then a win away to Sassuolo has helped them set their sights on moving up the table. Paulo Sousa is under major pressure and his disorganised Salernitana side look simply too erratic and lacking cohesion to get a result here so Monza are firm favourites, especially with their home advantage.
TIP: MONZA TO WIN
