THE LOWDOWN

LAZIO

Lazio remain under a lot of pressure ahead of this one with the Romans beginning the match day sitting in the bottom-half of the table after a very difficult domestic campaign. They have managed just five wins in their opening 13 Serie A matches and come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat away to bottom-of-the-table and, as of then winless, Salernitana.

The capital city club do come into this one on the back of a 2-0 victory over Celtic at Stadio Olimpico in midweek with a late Ciro Immobile brace. The hosts have now ensured qualification for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League but performances have remained unconvincing throughout the group stage campaign.

CAGLIARI

Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari, following promotion last season, started without a victory in the opening ten matches of this campaign but the Sardinians have since become much-improved as they attempt to be competitive in their battle against the drop in Italy’s top-flight. They have now suffered just one defeat in their last six matches across all competitions.

That one loss came by a narrow 2-1 scoreline in Turin against Juventus and, aside from that, they have actually become quite entertaining to watch, too. Their last seven games have featured both teams scoring on all seven occasions with a combined total of 27 goals in that time, as well. They begin the weekend sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.

THE PREDICTION

On paper, this one has the potential to be quite an entertaining encounter. Lazio, especially in Rome, should be favourites against newly-promoted opposition but their season so far would suggest they are simply not able to be trusted. Cagliari will go to the capital with a gameplan in place by Ranieri that is designed to hurt where Lazio are most vulnerable and they will be confident of at least bloodying the nose of the hosts. Lazio remain slight favourites but a safer bet would be to just back both teams scoring.

BETTING TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
