THE LOWDOWN
HELLAS VERONA
The last time that Hellas Verona began a Serie A season with back-to-back victories, they went and won the title. That will not be the case this time around with the hosts very much involved in the relegation battle down at the bottom end of the table, just a few months after surviving the drop in the relegation playoff against Spezia last season.
The home team, as mentioned, started with two wins from two but then went on a 14-match winless run of form which only finally ended last weekend as they defeated fellow strugglers Cagliari by two goals to nil. Cagliari went down to ten men in the 51st minute with Cyril Ngonge and Michal Duric scoring the goals for Verona.
SALERNITANA
It has been a really tough campaign for Salernitana so far this season with the visitors beginning this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in the Serie A table with just one victory in their 17 matches so far this season. Only one team, Empoli, have scored fewer than the 14 that Salernitana have notched during this campaign.
The visitors come into this one on the back of a much-needed point against AC Milan, albeit frustratingly conceding a late equaliser in that match. Under the management of Filippo Inzaghi, who replaced Paulo Sousa earlier this season, Salernitana are very much looking destined for the drop.
THE TEAM NEWS
HELLAS VERONA
Attacking midfielder Ondrej Duda is missing this weekend due to suspension, whilst both Suat Serdar and Marco Faraoni are both doubts.

UNAVAILABLE: Duda (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE: Serdar (Injured), Faraoni (Injured)
SALERNITANA
Filippo Inzaghi has a couple of injury concerns as Mexican international goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is a doubt, whilst attacker Boulaye Dia is out injured.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Costil; Mazzocchi, Fazio, Pirola, Bradaric; Legowski, Coulibaly; Candreva, Kastanos, Tchaouna; Dia
UNAVAILABLE: Fiorillo (Suspended), Dia (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Ochoa (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
It is perhaps still a bit early to describe any game as a ‘six-pointer’ but Hellas Verona and Salernitana most definitely fall into that category as they scrap for survival. Both enjoyed improved performances and results last weekend but the visitors remain seemingly simply out of their depth down at the bottom and Verona, especially with home advantage, will be confident of making it back-to-back victories.
TIP: VERONA TO WIN
