Under the management of Pierre Aristouy, Nantes begin the match day sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table. That league position and settling is representative of their inconsistent and fairly haphazard ways throughout the campaign with four victories, three draws and six defeats in their opening 13 matches.
They come into this one on the back of a much-needed point at home to Le Havre, sharing a goalless draw with them. That followed three successive Ligue 1 defeats prior to the November international break. The punt to appoint the inexperienced and relatively unknown Francesco Farioli is paying off for INEOS-owned, Nice. The Riviera club intended to being playing a front foot and aggressive style of football under Farioli, as a disciple of Roberto De Zerbi, but instead have been reliant on a phenomenal defensive record.
Their 1-0 defeat of Toulouse last weekend was a continuation of that style of football with Nice having conceded just four goals in their opening 13 matches so far this season. They sit second in the table, just a point behind defending champions PSG, and are the only side who remain unbeaten thus far.
