THE LOWDOWN
MARSEILLE
It has been another turbulent campaign for Olympique de Marseille with Gennaro Gattuso leading an inconsistent side that sits firmly in the middle-of-the-table. The southerners, though, do come into this on the back of a much-needed and impressive 2-0 defeat of Stade Rennais at the weekend with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Azzedine Ounahi.
L’OM have now suffered just one defeat in their last seven matches across all competitions. That improved run of form has included them heading into their final UEFA Europa League group stage match sitting at the top of their group ahead of facing Brighton and Hove Albion next week to determine who automatically qualifies for the Round of 16.
LYON
John Textor-owned Olympique Lyonnais are France’s latest crisis club and they appear destined to become the next giant to be relegated down to Ligue 2 after the recent demotions of Girondins de Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne. OL remain rock-bottom ahead of this one under the caretaker management of Pierre Lage.
Pierre Lage is in charge after both Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso have already been sacked so far this season. Lyon begin this match day sitting bottom-of-the-table with just one victory in their 13 matches so far this season. They come into this on the back of back-to-back defeats against northern clubs, Lille and Lens.
THE TEAM NEWS
MARSEILLE
Olymoique de Marseille have a couple of injury concerns this weekend with defender Valentin Rongier and attacker Joaquin Correa on the sidelines.

LYON
Olympique Lyonnais will be without the likes of Corentin Tolisso and Johann Lepenant, as well as Remy Riou for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Lopes; Mata, Lovren, O’Brien, Tagliafico; Caqueret, Alvero; Nuamah, Cherki, Moreira; Lacazette
UNAVAILABLE: Riou (Injured), Tolisso (Injured), Lepenant (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
THE PREDICTION
‘Choc des Olympiques’ is a French footballing rivalry that should be contested between two healthy clubs aiming towards the top-of-the-table but this time features a mid-table side hosting relegation cannon fodder. However, that mid-table side, Marseille, are generally improving with Gattuso’s men beginning to aim towards the European spots. There seems to be just no signs of life with Lyon, though, and a fairly comfortable Marseille victory, especially at Stade Velodrome, would appear the likeliest outcome for this one.
