THE LOWDOWN
LENS
Franck Haise’s Lens were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in midweek with a 6-0 loss at the Emirates Stadium against a rampant Arsenal side. The home team began this season domestically very poorly but, despite that hammering the other day, have been majorly improved as they try and break back into the top five.
They come into this one on the back of three victories in their last four Ligue 1 matches, returning from the November international break with a 3-0 hammering of Clermont, last weekend. That run of form means that the home team are now unbeaten in their last eight matches, in a run that stretches back to mid-September.
LYON
Pierre Sage will take temporary charge this weekend as Olympique Lyonnais begin the search for their third permanent manager of the campaign already, following the sacking of 2006 Italian FIFA World Cup winner, Fabio Grosso, on Thursday. Lyon sit rock-bottom in Ligue 1 and look likely to become another fallen giant of French football.
Under the ownership of John Textor, the club have been in crisis throughout the campaign and they are beginning this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting five points off safety after a terrible start. Their most recent outing saw them defeated by Lille by two goals to nil as on and off field issues continue to cause havoc.

THE PREDICTION
In terms of club size and reputation, this one would be expected to be a bit of an even contest. However, at the moment, it is a real mis-match. Lyon have some quality in their squad so their league position can fool some but, frankly, they remain a haphazard mess as they travel north to face Lens. Lens will want and need to bounce back quickly after their midweek demolition and against manager-less bottom-of-the-table at home, they should get three points in the bag.
BETTING TIP: LENS TO WIN
