THE LOWDOWN

FULHAM

Marco Silva’s Fulham have hit their fluent best in recent weeks as The Cottagers begin to produce goal-laden matches. Their 17 Premier League matches so far this season have consisted of a combined total of 55 goals at an average of over three goals per game. They sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table ahead of this one.

The west London outfit, having pretty much secured survival in the Premier League for this season, are also enjoying a cup run as they reached the semi-finals of the EFL Cup in midweek with a penalty shootout victory over Everton at Goodison Park. They have suffered just two defeats in their last six in all competitions with those losses coming away to Liverpool and Newcastle.

BURNLEY

Following promotion last season, Vincent Kompany has persisted with his passing and progressive style of football but their ineffectiveness at both ends of the pitch has The Clarets heading into Christmas in a lot of trouble down at the bottom end of the table. The Lancastrians have managed just two victories in their 17 matches so far this season.

Those two victories came against the other members of the bottom three and their fellow newly-promoted sides; Luton Town and Sheffield United. Burnley have conceded over two goals per game on average this season with only the aforementioned Sheffield United having let in more than them so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

FULHAM

In his post-match press conference, Marco Silva complained about the decision to send off Mexican striker Raul Jimenez but the Fulham forward was correctly dismissed by all logic and he will serve the second of his three-match ban this weekend.

Silva will be pleased by the recovery of left-sided centre-back Calvin Bassey, especially as United States international defender Tim Ream remains unavailable due to injury, alongside winger Adama Traore.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castagne, Adarabioyo, Bassey, Robinson; Palhinha, Lukic; Willian, Pereira, Iwobi; Vinicius

UNAVAILABLE: Ream (Injured), Traore (Injured), Jimenez (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE:

BURNLEY

Luca Koleosho is a long-term absentee this weekend with the Italian youngster picking up a serious knee injury in their 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers a couple of weeks ago. Vincent Kompany is hopeful on a few returning players, though.

All three of Jack Cork, Aaron Ramsey and Johann Berg Gudmundsson missed Burnley’s loss to Everton but all three could well return this weekend with Kompany hinting at that possibility in his pre-match press conference.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Trafford; Vitinho, O’Shea, Beyer, Taylor; Larsen, Berge, Brownhill, Odobert; Rodriguez, Amdouni

UNAVAILABLE: Koleosho (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gudmundsson (Injured), Cork (Injured), Ramsey (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Fulham have been thrilling to watch in the month of December with the likes of Willian, Harry Wilson and Alex Iwobi all becoming consistent threats in attack. They will miss Raul Jimenez this weekend but should still have enough fire power to send themselves into Christmas with a victory against one of the Premier League’s main strugglers. Burnley have lacked any real sort of defensive cohesion this weekend and a comfortable home win is to be expected on Saturday afternoon.

TIP: FULHAM TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
