FPL Double Gameweek 33 – Captain Picks

The big winners of Gameweek 32 were those managers who captained Spurs midfielder Heung-Min Son(£11.1m). The South Korean netted a hat-trick in his side’s 0-4 win over Aston Villa which saw each of Spurs’ three-pronged frontline rack up the fantasy points. Son earned 21 points himself, whilst fellow midfielder Dejan Kulusevski (£6.4m) managed a goal, an assist and 12 FPL points. Forward Harry Kane (£12.6m) recorded another three assists, but a late booking meant that FPL owners had to settle for 10 points, rather than the 13 points he was originally set for after bonus points were added.

Although Kai Havertz (£7.9m) found the net for Chelsea away at Southampton, his half time substitution meant that he only acquired 6 FPL points, a frustrating climax when considering that Chelsea ultimately smashed the Saints by six goals to nil at St. Mary’s. Mason Mount (£7.5m) meanwhile, racked up two goals, an assist and 19 points. The big top of the table clash between Man City and Liverpool ended 2-2 with premium wingers Joao Cancelo (£7.0m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m) each gaining an assist. Elsewhere, Mo Salah (£13.2m) recorded his first attacking return since Double Gameweek 29, whilst Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m) maintained his recent goalscoring form, netting the opening goal of the game and 9 FPL points.

A bumper double gameweek spread across five days is now upon us with six clubs profiting with two fixtures. With a plethora of enticing captaincy options available, we round up the captain picks who may prove the most profitable in Double Gameweek 33, alongside a potential different diamond ahead of Saturday’s 11:00deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Heung-Min Son (£11.1m) vs BRI (H)

Placing the armband on any of the Spurs front three would be considered a sensible play in Double Gameweek 33 when taking into account the form of the trio. However, Heung-Min Son in particular has taken his offensive game to the next level in recent fixtures. Attacking midfielder Son has netted six goals in his last three Premier League matches with one assist and an incredible 48 FPL points accumulated within the past three gameweeks.

Spurs as a unit have now scored 25 goals since Gameweek 27, a run of seven games which bodes well for their prospects in front of goal against Brighton this weekend, who have just one clean sheet to their name since Double Gameweek 25. The two sides have already clashed twice this season in league and cup, with Antonio Conte’s side triumphing on both occasions. It would be foolish not to consider Son as your captain when factoring in his unbelievable goalscoring form of late.

Joao Cancelo (£7.0m) vs BRI (H)

Once again we are targeting Brighton with our second captain pick as flying full-back Joao Cancelo gets the nod. Kevin De Bruyne was originally going to be our choice, but a potential injury picked up in midweek has forced us to pivot. After being ruled out of Man City upcoming Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Real Madrid due to suspension, Cancelo is not expected to become a victim of Pep Guardiola’s notorious rotation policy anytime soon and this makes him a hugely attractive option in Double Gameweek 33 despite Man City featuring just once.

Guardiola’s men have racked up at least four goals in four of their last six Premier League fixtures against the Seagulls, most recently beating them 1-4 away from home. Cancelo’s recent FPL point-returns have been very consistent, accruing a score of 31 across the last five gameweeks with three clean sheets across this period. The Portuguese international is expected to be afforded plenty of license to roam forward in Double Gameweek 33 and offers the potential of FPL points across multiple avenues, making him an ideal choice as skipper.

James Maddison (£7.0m) vs NEW (a), EVE (a)

One player who could be in line to profit hugely from two fixtures in Double Gameweek 33 is Leicester creative midfielder James Maddison (£7.0m), especially when considering the set piece specialist’s recent numbers. The last three gameweeks has seen Maddison record one attacking return (a goal and two assists) across each match, gaining 22 FPL points overall and should he continue that run away to both Newcastle and Everton then he is set for a big Double Gameweek 33 score.

Having also found the net in midweek as Leicester triumphed away at PSV to book their place in the Europa Conference League semi-final, Maddison’s confidence is likely to be extremely high. Although he does run the risk of rotation, the 25-year-old has started in each of the Foxes’ last four Premier League fixtures, so he is worthy of captaincy consideration.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Martin Odegaard (£5.5m) vs SOU (a), CHE (a)

Having fallen behind bitter rivals Spurs in their quest to finish in the top four, this is a crucial gameweek for Arsenal, who benefit from two fixtures against Southampton and Chelsea, the former coming off the back of a 0-6 hammering at home to the latter. A positive reaction is surely on the cards for the Gunners following their last two defeats and FPL managers looking to take advantage of their two matches in Double Gameweek 33 should turn their attention to Martin Odegaard (£5.5m). The Norwegian was on the scoresheet against Brighton last weekend and has established himself as the creative hub of Arsenal’s attacking play.

A small ownership enhances midfielder Odegaard’s captaincy credentials for those looking to make up ground in their respective mini-leagues, especially when considering that he has already found the net against Southampton in the Premier League this season. It would also be no surprise if Arsenal were to catch Chelsea cold, with their match coming just three days after the Blues’ FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace.
