Ecuador preview: Toothless and profligate

Sebastian Beccacece has made Ecuador extremely tough to score against. Five goals conceded in CONMEBOL qualification for FIFA World Cup 2026 and with names such as Willian Pacho and Piero Hincapie, many believed the defence of Ecuador could see them go deep this summer.

However, their limited quality in attack appears to have been overlooked, having scored just 14 in qualifying with six of those coming from Enner Valencia. After a late 1-0 loss to Cote d'Ivoire, Eloy Room then equalled the record for the most saves in a FIFA World Cup game as the Curacao goalkeeper limited Ecuador go a goalless draw in Kansas City.

Germany preview: Top spot wrapped up

Julian Nagelsmann and his Germany side have already wrapped up top spot in Group E at FIFA World Cup 2026 with nine goals scored and two victories in their opening couple of games but neither were overly straightforward for Die Mannschaft.

They hammered Curacao by seven goals to one in their opener but did concede a shock equaliser before the first half hydration break. They then defeated Cote d'Ivoire with a last-gasp Deniz Undav winner after Simon Adingra had missed a glorious opportunity to win the match and therefore the group for Les Elephants.

Ecuador vs Germany prediction

Ecuador do play some enterprising football under Beccacece, who is a tactical disciple of Marcelo Bielsa, but the South Americans simply lack enough cutting edge and quality in the final third.

They will come up against a Germany side, though, that have little to play for other than to keep things ticking over and Nagelsmann's likely rotation could leave an already open Germany side looking even more disjointed in defence.

As a result, while a low-scoring encounter is always the safer bet when it comes to Ecuador, backing that as well as favouring the Ecuadoreans that need the victory to at least avoid defeat would appear good value.

Ecuador vs Germany betting tip: Double chance - Ecuador to win or draw & under 3.5 goals
