THE LOWDOWN

MULTAN SULTANS

  • Multan Sultans held their nerve against Islamabad United, chasing down 145 with five wickets and just one ball remaining in a match that saw batters struggle for the most part to time the ball.
  • After bowling out Islamabad for 144, things were looking good for the Sultans at 77/2, but a slow run-rate left them still with work to do and Iftikhar Ahmed deserves credit for managing his side through with a calm 18 not out.

LAHORE QALANDARS

  • Lahore Qalandars’ stuttering start to the tournament continued on Monday, their bowlers once again taking punishment trying to defend a score and failing to do so in the end, with opponents Quetta Gladiators chasing down 188.
  • No Lahore bowler picked up more than a wicket over the course of the match, whilst there was a positive in the form of Jahandad Khan, who underlined his status as a handy lower order hitter, blasting 45 not out from just 17 balls.

THE PREDICTION

A rematch of the Pakistan Super League finals of both 2022 and 2023 sees the back-to-back champion Lahore Qalandars suffering a rare period of struggle following consecutive defeats. Multan Sultans though, have made the ideal start in this year’s competition, winning one game comprehensively and another by an extremely tight margin, showing their mettle. They have a point to prove to the Qalandars and should be backed to make that point by winning this encounter.

TIP: MULTAN SULTANS TO WIN
