Cagliari have more or less removed themselves from the conversation in terms of the Serie A relegation battle as the Sardinians now take on mid-table Udinese at the Sardegna Arena.

Cagliari Preview: Sardinian steadiness

Cagliari had begun to drift towards the bottom three and the relegation places but the poor form of the bottom three or four had allowed them to remain confident of safety and that confidence will now be firmly founded following their victory last weekend.

The Sardinians come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat of Hellas Verona at the Marcantonio Bentegodi in Verona last weekend thanks to a 30th minute goal from Leonardo Pavoletti before a second-half stoppage-time strike scored by Alessandro Deiola.

Udinese Preview: A poor end to the season

Udinese avoided relegation on the final day of last season and the Pozzo family appeared to ensure that would never happen again as the Friulians decided to turn their focus and attention away from Watford and back to their Serie A side.

They are, though, having basically wrapped up safety a few months ago, enduring a poor end to the campaign this season as they come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Bologna last weekend to follow on from six successive defeats.

Cagliari Team News: Piccoli suspended

Ahead of the visit of Udinese this weekend, Cagliari will be without key striker Roberto Piccoli as he is still missing through suspension for this one, whilst former Everton centre-back Yerry Mina is once again unavailable due to a thigh injury.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Caprile; Zappa, Palomino, Luperto; Zortea, Adopo, Makoumbou, Marin, Augello; Zito Luvumbo, Pavoletti

Unavailable: Yerry Mina (Injured), Piccoli (Suspended)

Questionable:

Udinese Team News: Several issues

Udinese are dealing with several availability concerns for this weekend’s trip to Sardinia as Jaka Bijol is missing through suspension for this one, whilst the likes of Jordan Zemura, Florian Thauvin and Lorenzo Lucca are all sidelined through injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Okoye; Kristensen, Kabasele, Solet; Ehizibue, Karlstrom, Payero, Kamara; Atta, Davis, Iker Bravo

Unavailable: Bijol (Suspended), Toure (Injured), Zemura (Injured), Thauvin (Injured), Lucca (Injured)

Questionable: Ekkelenkamp (Injured)

Cagliari vs Udinese Prediction

Cagliari come into this one on the back of a poor run of form but their much-needed victory against Verona last weekend means they essentially head into the final four games of the Serie A season with the pressure off. The pressure has very much been off for Kosta Runjaic’ Udinese in the last couple of months and they have allowed that to show. Siding with Cagliari, with home advantage and their intention to rubber stamp Serie A status next season, looks the way to go for this one.

Cagliari vs Udinese Tip: Double chance – Cagliari to win or draw
