Cabo Verde name first ever FIFA World Cup squad
Cabo Verde manager Bubista has announced his 26-man squad for FIFA World Cup 2026.
Having held off African giants Cameroon in CAF qualification for FIFA World Cup 2026, Cabo Verde have named their first ever FIFA World Cup squad with Bubista keeping things nice and simple.
No player to have played for Cabo Verde in the last 12-18 months with fewer than ten caps has been named out, with perhaps their most notable omission being former Bolton Wanderers centre-back Ricardo Santos.
At the back, though, is where Cabo Verde are perhaps at their best with Villarreal centre-back Logan Costa having fought back from a lengthy injury layoff with the Yellow Submarine.
Alongside Costa, 38-year-old full-back Stopira has been selected with Diney and Pico, the latter of which is plays his football with Shamrock Rovers in the League of Ireland and the Dublin-born defender represented the Republic of Ireland at U19 level.
The front-line of Cabo Verde is where they boast a lot of experience and a fair bit of pedigree with former Sporting CP man Jovane Cabral perhaps the star alongside the likes of Garry Rodrigues, Willy Semedo, Dailon Livramento, Nuno da Costa and captain Ryan Mendes.
First-choice goalkeeper Vozinha, who will be 40 at this summer’s tournament, is one of 11 players aged 30 or over in their experienced squad.
